The Talking Trees Project at Guilford College began in the ENGL 228/REL 120 American Nature Writing course, Spring 2013.  Students worked together to identify, describe, and tell the history of individual trees on Guilford's central campus.

Each tree’s page includes the following information:

  • Common name
  • Latin (scientific) name
  • GPS coordinates
  • Photographs of the tree (full tree, bark portion, leaves/blossoms if available)
  • Approximate age of the individual tree
  • Uses, if any, of the tree’s wood or fruit by humans and/or other animals
  • Information or stories about the individual tree

Identification labels placed on the trees include QR codes so campus visitors can link to the tree's individual webpage here.
