I modified a toy revolver in order to give it a more realistic appearance and to give it a more European profile as opposed to an "old west" look. I began by filing down the pistol grip so it would have the more rounded shape that was common for the period of European revolvers. I then pried away the safety cap on the end of the barrel. When I tried to use the modeling clay to cover up the designs along the gun, I found the clay had no adhesive quality whatsoever so I instead resorted to black duck tape. I also used the black duck tape on the grip to smooth it out some. Finally I gave the revolver a somewhat light coat of black spray paint, resulting in a more metallic blued finish appearance.

I spent approximately 1.5 hours on this project

The problem with the revolver was a double bladed situation; it certainly had to be realistic enough to where the audience wouldn't be distracted by it during a relatively heavy scene however the prop only appeared onstage for such a short time that spending a considerable amount on a realistic prop wasn't really practical. I believe the altering of the plastic toy gun instead of spending $60+ on a replica proved valuable not only for the obvious money saved, but also because of the experience I gained in being able to find creative, cheap solutions to such issues.

I rolled twenty cigarettes for the Hensey scene the day before it was determined that he would not, after all actually have a cigarette. I also discussed with Hannah where to obtain strike anywhere matches. I suggested that she try outdoor stores that sold camping supplies. It seems now, however, that a striking surface is going to be installed somewhere on the stage.

I spend approximately 45 minutes on cigarette rolling.

It would have been nice to have been informed about the change in the Hensey scene before I created the cigarettes, but I completely understand how something like that slipped through the cracks with the hectic tech schedule. All in all I believe props are quite ready for the production unless we are still planning on weighting the gun.
