While in Kunming we stayed at the Yunnan Nationalities Universtiy and took classes there. Kunming is a city in the Yunnan Province with a population of around 6 million people. The university is in walking distance to Greenlake park and a vareity of good restaurants and shops. While in Kunming we studied Chinese language intensively for 3 hours every day and had a morning tai ji class. After Chinese class we would have a lunch break then would go to a history/culture or religion class that usually consisted of lectures and feildtrips to different areas of Kunming and outside the city as well.
It has been a challenge getting used to Chinese culture and food. Everything is new and exciting but also overwhelming. Having such a strong language barrier is something I have never experienced before. It is very humbling and makes me feel very out of place in many situations. I have struggled with sickness for the most part of our stay in Kunming, and at one point ended up in the hospital and ended up needing antibiotics. There are a vareity of beautiful and traditionally rich temples in Kunming. One of my favorite parts of the trip thus far was when we visted a Buddhist temple in the heart of downtown Kunming. While there the main temple was holding a prayer chanting session. I was very entralled and drawn to the ceremony, it seemed to resonate with something deep inside of me.
